Auto-approval and a design-system migration for Demo Labs
Removed a manual approval queue from lab creation and moved the Demo Labs UI to Okta's Odyssey design system.
- ~25%
- less manual approval work
- ~15%
- more lab creation in 4 months
- 12
- pages migrated to Odyssey
Problem
Solution Engineers waited 24 to 48 hours for lab events to be approved by hand, and the Demo Labs UI used legacy components.
Approach
- Rule-based auto-approval for eligible lab events, written in Node.js.
- Migrated 12 pages (about 35 files) to Odyssey with custom theming, design tokens and Shadow DOM support.
- Moved logo lookup from the browser to a Lambda and API Gateway proxy cached on CloudFront, taking the API key out of the client.
Result
Manual approval work fell by about 25% and lab creation rose by about 15% over 4 months. Logo latency fell by about 20%, and the proxy has served 25,000+ requests.
